In a January 2022 interview with the Asia Times, Commander Maj. Gen. Twan Mrat Naing said that the AA has grown to 30,000 soldiers, mainly present in Rakhine, although at least 6,000 troops are stationed in areas controlled by AA allies, such as the country’s north and northeast. Four factors are behind the rapid rise of the AA.
